Obsessions

PB can become obsessive. Lately it has been egg hunts and geography. We did so many egg hunt in the week before Easter…upwards of 10 a day. We put away the eggs on Easter with a plea for no more egg hunts.

PB loves geography. Joe was trying to convince him that an atlas did not count as a story for bedtime. He choose a road atlas for a prize at the library. I was looking at an unlabeled map of the United States and was asking PB the names of the states, because he knows them better than I do. One of his favorite activities is asking Siri the population of various countries or states. It is a great if not strange interest for him. Still, I could care less to know that Utah’s population is probably higher than Kansas now, but not at the 2010 census. I do know a weird number such odd facts because PB wants to know.

I’m just glad C is a bit more well rounded. He generally likes everything, although the sandbox is heaven for him.

Wyoming

This is a quote from PB: “I have too much love, I need to hug you.”

We went and visited my sister for Conference weekend. PB was very excited to see his cousins. They exhausted each other with all their playing. Besides visiting, we went and played disc golf. I think disc golf is a great way to experience the landscapes of the area. Wyoming is windy and with hardly any trees and wide views.

We also enjoyed a free day at the local college. Their were tons of activities. We decided to split up, and each took a kid. I got to look at animals, dig in the sand, play balls and play dough with C. I was happy we split up, it meant I could spend more time focusing on my child instead of everyone else, and I didn’t have to wait on anyone (not my strong point).

Growing

It is spring so everything is growing outside. The kids are growing a ton too. PB surprises me sometimes because he is so tall (just under four feet), and he keeps getting taller. He’s pretty smart too–he can read and count to 100. C is funny because he has a long torso and short little legs. It is hard to get clothes that fit right.

This is mom admiring the flowers with C. I was happy this shrub turned out to be a forsythia, just because it meant I guessed right.

The boys went to the Zoo in Logan without me. It was nice.

Stamps

I love spring. We can spend lots of time outside enjoying our new sandbox, and playing. I even managed to beat Joe at disc golf last Saturday. We do play so that I score everything on a par 4, and he scores on a par 3. So he’s still a lot better than me.

I had fun with this activity. We used craft foam to make stamps. It is pretty simple: just draw a picture in the foam of whatever you want the stamp to be, pressing firmly to make a good groove. PB was able to do it. Joe also had carved some stamps from gum erasers earlier that I got out. The stamp pads were liquid watercolor and baby wipes.

Sticky Table

We did a sticky table that was a lot of fun. It is contact paper taped sticky side up to a board. PB liked to run across it at first, and then we matched colors on it. C saw me taking pictures and wanted to try.

He took this picture. Not too bad.

And then we turned the camera around and had a blast taking pictures of ourselves.

Waterfall Canyon

I had been wanting to hike Waterfall Canyon in Ogden for a long time. Finally, I decided that on Saturday we would go. The weather was nice, and it should be early enough in the season that it wouldn’t be too crowded. But then Joe had to work a little bit, I had a baby shower to go to, and knowing that the kids would make it slow, we couldn’t find a good time to go. I decided just to go without Joe.

The boys and I embarked. I knew if we were going to make it we would have to take it slow. Although I was imagining slow walking, the boys were more interested in just getting distracted. Like playing in the sand.

After awhile Mr. C had no interest in moving forward: throwing rocks was far more interesting. I put him in the carrier. We soon broke off the larger path and headed up the canyon where it was more rocky. PB shot off, and I only saw him periodically until we got to the falls. Climbing over the rocks was very fun for him, and he ended up being a great hiker.

made-it

We made it to the falls, and it took us less time than I expected.

The start of the way back was the hardest: it was steep and rocky and both boys were slipping and freaking out. I had to carry Mr. C again, and then we did much better. It was a lot of fun, and I would do it again, although it is nice to have Joe around to carry the toddler. (We just like him too.) But I think me and PB could hike anything.

Someone Had a Birthday

happy

I love this kid. He just keeps getting cuter the older he gets. And now he’s two!

We enjoyed a visit to the train museum/mode train festival in Ogden too. Mr. C loved it. He managed to derail a train too, after falling down on top of it.

Apperance

My appearance has been something I have been thinking about for a while. I stumbled across this website (which I explored but did not purchase anything). I had Curly Girl suggested to me and subsequently went out and bought and read it. I looked at two other books on clothes, and spent a lot of time pondering what I wore and how I looked.

Part of me was enthralled that I could actually study how to look good. I was a nerd in high school, and I was never quite comfortable with how I looked. To re-study fashion/style was a lot of fun, thinking about how I could actually look great if I wanted to.

But after a few weeks of thinking about it, I realized that I liked how I look. While studying style, I started to want to fix something that just wasn’t broken. I like my clothes, my hair, my make-up and ultimately had no desire to change them all.

I’m not even close to fashionable. But I also do not go around in my pajamas. I strike a nice medium: I do go around in clothes that I don’t mind dirt and spit on (as a homemaker and avid gardener, I get a lot of both). But I still feel cute and not frumpy in what I wear.

I will never fit in with my looks. Being a gawky 6’1″, with short curly hair ensures that. But I’m learning it is better to be true to myself and what I like than trying please other people.
